Department of Zoology was established in 1989. Department was launched B.Sc.-I course in June 1989 and B.Sc.-II course in June 1990 under Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The B.Sc.-III course was launched in June 2020. Department currently offers courses B.Sc.-I, B.Sc.-II, B.Sc.-III, The department actively participated in written Quiz competition for above all courses, oral zoology quiz . The department carried out many student centric activities like seminars, projects, case studies, slow and advance learners batch and group discussions. Some alumni of this department are currently working in all over India. The department of zoology has well-equipped laboratory with various fascinating chordate and non-chordate preserved specimens, wildlife photography, histological slides and Student’s Library with various books of Zoology. Although the department having two computers, projector, Single Digital microscope, thirty two compound microscopes, twenty five dissecting microscopes, Microtome machine, Incubator, refrigerator, Colorimeter, water bath, haemoglobinometer, and a single Binocular. Department has memorandom of understanding with Nature Conservation Society, Sangli for the awareness about conserving and maintaining the biodiversity in their nature habitat; which helps to each and every person for better and prosperous growth of nature and this is todays urgent need. Presently, two permanent and one CHB Assistant Professors are working in the department. The Department has an excellent record of academic results. Now-a-days, Use of Zoology is becoming more interdisciplinary in nature, deriving its strength from various fields of research and applications. Department is trying to contribute to the development of this subject by innovative teaching - learning with various research activities. The Department of Zoology is a fostering ground for an individual’s comprehensive development and to inculcate fraternal spirit for scientific work & ability to pursue studies far beyond graduation and effective contribution to the society. By utilizing cutting-edge research and progressive pedagogical practices, we aim to instill in our pupils the greatest possible moral standards, a profound respects for the natural environment and a comprehensive understanding of animal sciences. It is the common objective of the department to impart knowledge of the student because of that they acquire the knowledge of animal science naturel phenomenon and manipulation of environment.
